The Oniket Research (www.oniket.org) is committed to protecting the personal information of all contributors and readers. The Oniket Bulletin (www.bulletin.oniket.org) has designated a Privacy Officer who bears responsibility for ensuring the Bulletin’s compliance with this Privacy Policy. This Policy is intended to provide a clear and transparent account of the categories of personal information that may be collected, and the purposes for which such information is used.
For the purposes of this Policy, “personal information” refers to information pertaining to an identifiable individual. It does not include business contact information, nor does it encompass: (a) information relating to corporate or commercial entities; (b) information that is publicly available; or (c) information that cannot be associated with a specific individual.
Data Protection Principles
Consent. The Oniket Bulletin will obtain the consent of the individual prior to collecting, using, or disclosing personal information, except where it is authorised or required by law to do so without consent. Consent may be express or implied or may be given through an authorised representative. It may be provided orally, in writing, electronically, or through inaction — for example, where a user fails to notify the Bulletin of their objection to the collection, use, or disclosure of their personal information for optional purposes, following reasonable notice to that effect.
A user may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, provided that reasonable written notice of the withdrawal is given to The Oniket Bulletin. Upon receipt of such notice, the Bulletin will advise the user of the likely consequences of withdrawal, which may include the Bulletin’s inability to provide certain services for which the provision of that information is a prerequisite.
Collection and Use of Personal Information
The Oniket Bulletin may, from time to time, collect and use personal information for the following purposes:
- To authenticate the identity of a user.
- To enable a user to register as a contributor or to create a profile on The Oniket Bulletin.
- To enable a user to comment on articles or contributions published on The Oniket Bulletin.
- To enable a user to participate in surveys or to provide feedback to The Oniket Bulletin.
The purposes listed above constitute a reasonably necessary part of the user’s relationship with The Oniket Bulletin. Where personal information is to be used for a purpose not previously identified, the new purpose will be disclosed to the user prior to such use, and consent will be sought, unless the use is otherwise authorized by law.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Where a user registers as a user of The Oniket Bulletin, their user profile — which may include personal information — will be stored by The Oniket Bulletin Editorial Office. Where a user comments on an article or contribution, The Oniket Bulletin may publish that comment, together with associated personal information such as the user’s name, on the platform.
Save for the circumstances described above, The Oniket Bulletin will not disclose personal information to third parties, except in the following circumstances:
- To third-party service providers that assist in the operation of The Oniket Bulletin, subject to the requirement that such parties maintain the confidentiality of personal information and do not use or disclose it for any purpose other than the performance of the relevant services; and
- In exceptional circumstances, where The Oniket Bulletin is required or authorised by law to disclose personal information — for example, to law enforcement authorities or in order to prevent a serious threat to public safety.
Personal information may also be disclosed with the express consent of the individual concerned.
Handling of Personal Information
The Oniket Bulletin will take all reasonable steps to protect personal information held by it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
Access to Personal Information
Any individual may request access to the personal information held about them by The Oniket Bulletin, and such access will be provided upon request. Certain exemptions may apply to the provision of that information. The Bulletin may require suitable identification from the person requesting access and may charge an administrative fee in connection with the granting of such access.
Amendments to this Policy
In order to keep pace with economic and technological developments, The Oniket Bulletin reserves the right to revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any revised Policy will be published on the Bulletin’s website and will come into effect 30 days following the date of publication.
Privacy Complaints
All enquiries, complaints, or questions relating to this Privacy Policy must be directed in writing to The Oniket Bulletin Privacy Officer at: bulletin@oniket.org.
